WE SUPPORT ISSUES THAT PUT VOTERS FIRST
Same-day voter registration:
Eligible voters should be able to register to vote in-person and vote on the same day. No more unnecessary deadlines that prevent eligible voters from casting their ballots.
Automatic Voter Registration:
Anytime an eligible citizen gives their information to the government (for a driver’s license, benefits, registering for classes at a public university, etc.) they should be automatically registered to vote.
No-excuse Absentee Voting:
Many states require that voters provide an excuse in order to vote by absentee ballot. By eliminating this requirement, voters will be able to vote early by absentee ballot without providing a reason.
In-person early voting with extended hours and locations:
When voters have more opportunities to vote in-person, lines are shorter and participation is easier.
Restore voting rights for citizens with past criminal convictions:
Once someone’s prison sentence and term of parole are finished, their voting rights should be automatically restored.
End Partisan Gerrymandering:
We must create a fair and transparent process for redistricting led by an independent commission that involves citizen input.
Making Election Day a Holiday:
Election Day should be a state holiday. Whether you are casting your ballot, volunteering at a polling location, or urging your neighbors to do the same, the circumstances of your job should never be a barrier.
Paid Postage for Mail-in Ballots:
Purchasing a stamp should not prevent a voter from mailing in their ballot. All mail-in ballots should be printed with pre-paid postage voters can focus on voting.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA STATEHOOD:
Over 700,000 people call Washington, DC home. These people deserve voting representation in Congress and democratic control over the decisions that govern their city. Denying DC residents voting representation in congress is one of the greatest forms of voter suppression as DC has a plurality of Black residents.
PUERTO RICAN STATEHOOD:
Puerto Rico has been a colony owned by the United States since 1898, and was granted citizenship in 1917. Though they are citizens, they lack a vote in the Presidential election and lack voting representation in Congress. They have no say in the laws and government that affect them. They must be granted the ability to self determine through a binding vote on the issue of statehood.
